National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise

The park is the most ancient and important nature reserve in Italy, it was formed in 1923 and it is a sample for the environmental protection, currently examined abroad. Intact are beech forests and it is possible to watch wolfs, bears and chamois so close.

The park expands to 50.683 meters including 3 regions (Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise), 3 provinces (L'Aquila, Frosinone and Isernia) and 25 towns.

The biodeversity includes almost 6000 insects species, so it represents an Italian record.

The park is famous for its mammals: the Marsican brown bear, the chamois of Abruzzo, deer, lynx, fox, badger, beech marten, weasel and the Calabrian black squirrel. It is a paradise for birdwatching: eagles, buzzards, the eagle-owl, griffons and the rare white-backed woodpecker.

The hub of the park is the town of Pescasseroli, here set also the offices of the park institution. The town is perfect for vacation and it is wonderfully evocative of naturalistic life. More than 50 marked trails are available in order to explore the park and the beauty of nature. No matter what season you love, the park is an amazing destination with unbeatable views, especially during spring-summer and autumn period.

1. Starting from Camosciara, stunning nature reserve towards the lovely town of Civitella Alfedena, where it is possible to visit the fauna areas of the wolf and the lynx; the Museum of the Wolf is worth visiting as well.
2. From the town of Civitella Alfedena in the direction of one of the most charming valley in Abruzzo, The Valley of Roses, right in the heart of the National park of Abruzzo, the reign of the chamois of Abruzzo.
3. From Civitella Alfedena to the mountain hut of Iorio (1850m) with an outstanding view over the uplands of the park, and at the end of the trail a visit to the forest of Difesa of Pescasseroli, on the track of the Marsican brown bear.
