Lake of Penne (Province of Pescara)

The lake is an artificial lagoon, surrounded by the Gran Sasso Mountain. It is developed in 1965 and it is the most important Nature Reserve of Abruzzo, closer to the town of Penne, an environmentally friendly city. Since 1987 the natural area is the hub of the Nature Reserve of Lake of Penne; the city town of Penne, the Reclamation Consortium and WWF Italy run the organization well.

It is 10 meters deep and 70 hectares large.

The reserve hosts the Environment Educational Centre, the Botanical Gardens and the Naturalistic Museum with the interesting Garden of Butterflies.

The bird Nycticorax is the symbol of the Nature Reserve and the place is rich in bird fauna and it is possible to enjoy the facts of the otter, as sea otter and land otter.
