Lake of Campotosto (Province of L'Aquila)

It is the largest artificial lagoon in Abruzzo and it is the paradise for canoeing and windsurfing lovers, perfect spot for leisurely picnic. It was created in 1984 and it belongs to the National Nature Reserve with the National Park of Gran Sasso.

The lake sets at 1313 meters and it is characterized by a V-shape with its tip towards the East. The area expands to 1400 hectares: 42 kilometers large and 13 meters deep.

There are many mallards, coots and the common pochards during winter; the fish fauna is rich as well with coregonus, sea trouts and rainbow trouts, tenches, common roaches and barbus.
