Hermitage of St. Bartolomeo - Roccamorice (Province of Pescara)

The hermitage is one of the most famous and inaccessible, since Pietro da Morrone retreated here for nine years with some of his disciples.

The interior is entirely dug into the rock and the valuable wood statue of the saint is positioned on the altar. Next to the altar is a little cella, used as sacristy and once the prayer space of Pietro da Morrone. The wood statue is deeply worshipped by pilgrims, and yearly on 25th August they parade up to the parish church of Roccamorice.
