Hermitage of St. Giovanni all'Orfento - Caramanico Terme (Province of Pescara)

It is one of the most inaccessible place, in the middle of the mystical Nature Reserve of Orfento Valley at an altitude of 1227 meters. The only way to reach the hermitage is crawling on the rock in a narrow access, hanging few meters from the ground, after a written authorization of the local State Forestry Corps. Shepherds and woodsmen used to be buried near the hermitage.

The origin is still unknown: only survive few remains, probably dating back the Bronze Age and a painting of St. Giovanni all'Orfento is on display in the church of St. Pellegrino, in Bominaco.
