Masciulli viaggi

The church was erected in 1605 as the saint desired to found a religious community in its own town. The interior has a only one baroque nave ending to the high altar made of valuable marble and bronze. At the right side of the altar is located the statue of St. Camillo, a reproduction of the statue placed in the St. Peter Basilica in Rome. The statue is a bronze cast, made after the death of the saint.

On the opposite side of the statue are the relics of his Foot, deeply worshipped by pigrims, his shoes, a veil used to heal his foot lesion and a manuscript.

Two side staircases lead to the crypt where valuable mosaic and glass decorations conserve the saint simulacrum. Next to the simulacrum the Fiaccola della Carità is burning all the time, it was donated by Pope John XXIII in 1960. The simulacrum is an accurate reproduction of the face of St. Camillo, made using a wax mask before laying him down to the grave.

It is possible to visit a permanent exhibition of the life of the saint and a beautiful cloister with an ancient well and bell, used to invoke the saint during bad weather.
