Province: L'Aquila - Elevation:  1050 Population: 3711

The village belongs to the Italian association "I borghi più belli d' Italia" (The most beautiful villages of Italy) and it is the most photographed place in Abruzzo and so famous in the world.

Scanno is perched on its turquoise lake and intact survives its Medieval origins - elderly women still wear the traditional old dress and browsing through unusual shops of ancient goldsmiths, handed down from one generation to another, you can experience the Medieval atmosphere.

The main sights are the Sarracco Fountain along the street of Abrami and the church of St. Maria della Valle, in the main square.

Pastoralism was the main livelihood activity and thanks to the nobles classes sheep farming became the most profitable business in the village, so people boasted their richness building imposing palaces with architectural ornaments.

The museum of Wool exhibits old tools and documents relating to sheep farming and historic scenes of everyday life of the local people.
